It is wonderful what the hands of the artisans of Guacamayas can create with what nature gives them. Roll basket weaving is one of the most recognized craft trades in Colombia. Its spiral weaving begins with the interior or ‘soul’ of the piece made of straw and continues with the covering of it with fique threads; a plant from which the cabuya textile fiber is extracted, a crop considered cultural because it has been used since pre-Columbian times by indigenous communities to manufacture everything from ropes to footwear. This type of basketwork is characterized by mixing bright colors, drawing figures and playing with different geometric shapes, which transmits joy and reaffirms the identity and strength of this people with each spiral.
Given the fact that our pieces are made by hand, each and every one of them is unique. As such, they may present minor variations in color and/or specific measurements, across in the various materials that we handle, such as: fabric, leather, wood, etc.
